Introduction

The diploma in Civil Engineering (Specialized in Hydropower) was started in 2075BS at ‘Shankharapur Polytechnic Institute’ and is one of the prominent disciplines in the engineering sector. The hydropower sector is related to all-round physical infrastructure development and it has been creating wage and self-employment opportunities both in the public and private sectors. This course is based on the academic requirements to enter bachelor as well as designed with the purpose of producing a middle-level technical workforce equipped with knowledge and skills related to the field of civil engineering, especially in hydropower engineering so as to meet the demand of such workforce in the country to contribute in the national infrastructure development in the country. The knowledge and skills incorporated in this course will be helpful to deliver individual needs as well as national and international needs in the field of the hydropower sector.

Program Objectives

This program has the following objectives:

  • Prepare technicians capable of undertaking works under Road, Irrigation, Water supply, Urban Development, Building Construction, and hydropower infrastructures development
  • Produce a middle-level competent technical workforce to provide supervisory works of civil engineering
  • Prepare technical workforce who demonstrate positive attitude and respect towards the profession with greater initiative
  • Fulfill the demand for required Hydropower Engineering Technicians for the public and private infrastructure development sector of Nepal
  • Reduce the dependency on foreign technicians
  • Create self-employment opportunities

 

Course Description

This course is based on the job required performed by Civil as well as Hydropower Engineering Technicians (Civil Sub-Engineer) at different levels of public and private sectors for physical infrastructure development. There are six semesters in total in three years course duration. The first-year course focuses on foundational and core subjects of engineering; the second-year course focuses on basic disciplinary subjects of Civil Engineering and Hydropower Engineering. Similarly, the third-year whole courses comprise disciplinary subjects including the provision of elective subjects. Moreover, the third year insists on the application of learned skills and knowledge through minor projects and major projects.
